There has been some confusion on who was the original creator of the task. However, NikkieTutorials reignited interest in the idea when she made her own version of the video one week ago.
In only five days, the video that was uploaded by NikkieTutorials, whose real name is Nikkie de Jager, has amassed approximately 10 million views, and many other bloggers have followed suit. To take the challenge to its most literal interpretation, some of the vloggers, like Lupita of MakeUpByPita, have decided to use just the makeup that can be obtained at a toy store. Some people are expanding the concept to include cosmetics that were bought in tween shopping meccas such as Claire’s.
Regardless, it seems that the majority of these items do not include the same high-quality chemicals that these ladies are used to using in their movies. After seeing nine different iterations of the kids’ make-up only looks (all of which are seen here), we realized that we needed to give it a go for ourselves. We made the decision to sidestep the competition in the same manner as Lupita by getting all of our supplies from the toy aisle.
We went to K-Mart without having any idea what we would discover there, and we searched through the toy aisles for anything that had to do with beauty. The first significant purchase we made was Disney’s Frozen Beauty Kit, which retails for $12.49 and is intended for children aged 6 and older. It comes with two containers of lip gloss, two lip balms, one palette of glittering lip gloss, press-on nails, nail jewels, and nail stickers. Oh, and let’s not overlook the barrettes and the make-up purse that feature Elsa.
After that, we came across another glitter-filled lip gloss set with Minion characters on them for $6.59 (for ages 3 and older), as well as a Monster High Skulltimate Beauty Set for $8.99 (for ages 8 and older), which included three more lip glosses that appeared to be of questionable quality along with two nail polishes.
Unfortunately, there are limitations to what can be accomplished with lip gloss, so we continued our search for eyeshadow and blush. No dice. However, we did find a fascinating Fashion Angels Hair Tattoo Kit that included ten different colors of hair chalk for a price of $14.49 and was intended for children aged 8 and above. It is the best option available. We also did not have an eyebrow pencil or eyeliner, so we purchased a pack of Crayola markers instead.
