Skrillex is a DJ, record producer, musician, vocalist, and songwriter from the United States. He was born on January 15, 1988. He grew up in Northeast Los Angeles and Northern California, and in 2004, he became the lead singer of the American post-hardcore band From First to Last. He recorded two studio albums with the band before leaving to pursue a solo career in 2007.
In late 2007, he embarked on his very first solo tour. Moore joined the Alternative Press Tour to support bands like All Time Low and The Rocket Summer, and he was featured on the cover of Alternative Press’ annual “100 Bands You Need to Know” edition after putting together a new band lineup.Moore was set to record Bells, his debut studio album, with producer Noah Shain after releasing the Gypsyhook EP in 2009.
However, he stopped working on the album and went under the stage name Skrillex, releasing the My Name Is Skrillex EP for free on his official MySpace blog. He followed up with the Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites EP in late 2010 and the More Monsters and Sprites EP in mid 2011, both of which were moderate commercial hits. He was nominated for five Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist, on November 30, 2011, and won three: “Best Dance/Electronica Album,” “Best Dance Recording,” and “Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical.”
He was nominated for the BBC’s Sound of 2012 poll on December 5, 2011. MTV recognised him Electronic Dance Music Artist of the Year on December 12, 2011. Moore grew up in the Northeast Los Angeles community of Highland Park,.However, at the age of two, he was moved to San Francisco’s Forest Hill area, where he attended elementary school. Moore went to a boarding school in the Mojave Desert LV when he was 9 and 10 years old, but afterwards returned to Northern California. He grew up in a Scientology household with both parents.
He was adopted at birth by family friends of his biological parents, which he did not learn about until he was 15 years old. His family returned to his birthplace in Northeast Los Angeles when he was 12 years old,. He enrolled in a private arts academy that employed some of L. Ron Hubbard’s theories. Moore used to go to punk shows in East and South Los Angeles’ Mexican American areas, as well as electro club parties in the downtown Silver Lake and Echo Park neighbourhoods, when he was a youngster. Moore declared in a 2015 interview that he does not follow Scientology, despite his parents’ beliefs. He added that music takes up the majority of the time he could dedicate to religion if he wanted to.
In June 2015, he lost his mother. Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, and the Doors have all been recognised as early influences by Moore. Moore mentioned in an online interview that he has been a longstanding fan of Warp Records, a label that has musicians like Aphex Twin and Squarepusher on its roster. Moore says he was first exposed to electronic dance music after seeing Daft Punk’s highly appreciated 2006 Coachella concert in an interview for Daft Punk Unchained, a 2015 documentary about the French electronic music duo Daft Punk.
Moore tweeted “Happy Birthday” on January 15, 2017, along with a link to a new From First to Last song with Moore on lead vocals. For the first time in over a decade, he later joined the band in Emo Nite LA. In 2017, he collaborated with Habstrakt on the songs “Chicken Soup,” “Would You Ever,” “Saint Laurent,” “Favor,” and “Saint Laurent” with Vindata and NSTASIA.
Skrillex intrigued fans in July 2018 by working with Missy Elliott on a clip dubbed “ID,” while the single’s release date has yet to be revealed. Skrillex shared a snapshot of himself and English DJ and producer Joyryde working on a song on Twitter on October 8, 2018, and then shared a video preview of the tune on Instagram. On October 19, 2018, “Agen Wida,” the collaboration, was officially launched.
He teased the song “Arms Around You” with XXXTentacion, Lil Pump, Maluma, and Swae Lee on Instagram on October 24, 2018. On October 25, 2018, the whole song was released. On “Face My Fears,” an opening song for the computer game Kingdom Hearts III, Skrillex, Poo Bear, and Japanese-American singer-songwriter Hikaru Utada collaborated.
On January 18th, 2019, the single was released. Skrillex released Show Tracks, a two-track EP containing Alvin Risk’s “Fuji Opener” and rapper Beam’s “Mumbai Power,” on July 18, 2019.At Avant Gardner in Brooklyn, New York, on October 27, 2021, Skrillex delivered his first solo set in the United States since the outbreak began.
