BIOGRAPHY:Selena Quintanilla was born in Lake Jackson, Texas, on April 16, 1971.  She was the youngest child of Cherokee heritage Marcella Ofelia Quintanilla (née Samora) and Mexican American former singer Abraham Quintanilla Jr.  ena grew up in a Jehovah’s Witness family. When she was six years old, Quintanilla, Jr. noticed her musical abilities. “Her timin,” he told People magazine.

Quintanilla, Jr. restored an old bus, renaming it “Big Bertha,” and used it as the family’s tour bus. The family sung for food in the early years of travelling and barely had enough money to pay for gSelena recorded her first album, Selena y Los Dinos, for Freddie Records in 1984.  Selena recorded Tejano music compositions despite her desire to record English-language songs.On October 17, 1989, Selena released her self-titled debut album. The majority of the songs were recorded at AMEN Studios in San Antonio, Texas, with the exception of “Sukiyaki” and “My Love,” which were recorded at Sunrise Studios in Houston.
