She began her career at the age of 12 when she met MC Hammer, and later met rapper Tupac Shakur. She relocated to Los Angeles at the age of 15 and was later discovered by A&M Records. The Way It Is (2005) was her debut album, and it had five singles: “Never,” “I Changed My Mind,” “(I Just Want It) To Be Over,” “I Should Have Cheated,” and “Love.”

Keyshia Cole is the biological daughter of Francine “Frankie” Lons and boxing trainer Virgil Hunter, and was born on October 15, 1981, in Oakland, California.
Cole and Hunter first met in 2016, following the confirmation of their paternity through a paternity test. At the age of two, she was adopted by family friends Leon and Yvonne Cole, and her last name was changed to Cole. Cole and her brother Sean (also known as Nutt-So) were exposed to the music industry at the age of 12, where they met and recorded with MC Hammer.

On the radio, Cole said, “Putting your entire faith in some of these ‘Hood Rappers’… How are you going to be a G and propagate lies to sell mix tapes? Where’s your talent? But the dude doesn’t have to lie! I could’ve stayed out of it.” Cole was chastised by urban media sources in March 2013 for her Twitter critique of Beyoncé’s “Bow Down/I Been On.”
Over the next three days, Lil’ Mo and Cole exchanged nasty tweets. Despite the interactions, Mo stated in May 2013 that she and Cole had no beef, prompting the two to exchange nasty comments on Instagram and Twitter.
