Vivian McPeak is a peace activist, social justice activist, cannabis rights activist, and musician who was born in 1958 in the United States. In the city of Seattle Washington. In 1988, he established what is now known as the “Seattle Peace Heathens Community Action Group”, which at first consisted of “just a piece of paper that was our creed, our kind of statement to the world. In 1990, a group calling themselves the Peace Heathens held a peace vigil in Gas Works Park as a form of protest against the Gulf War. The demonstrators engaged in activities such as singing and meditation, and on one occasion invited a speaker from an organization working to change laws regarding marijuana, but he did not show up. Gary Cooke offered McPeak the idea of organizing a marijuana rally with him as a means of coping with the dissatisfaction they both felt. The “protective” first took place in the spring of 1991 in Volunteer Park under the name “Washington Hemp Expo.” There were approximately 500 attendees at the time.

It was rebranded as the Seattle Hempfest the following year after the event’s attendance more than doubled, and it has maintained that moniker ever since. McPeak was honored with the High Times Freedom Fighter of the Year Award in 2001 as well as the High Times Lester Grinspoon Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012, the Dope Magazine Emery Award for lifetime achievement in the cannabis industry, and was named one of the 50 Most Influential People in Seattle Magazine’s list of the 50 Most Influential People in the World in 2016. McPeak has also been a guest on a wide variety of network and cable news programs, including those broadcast on CNN FOX, and CNBCAt the very first Washington Cannabis Summit, which took place at the Crowne Plaza in Seatac, Washington, in 2015, McPeak was one of the opening keynote speakers.
