Susan Ashton (born Susan Rae Hill on July 17, 1967) is an American contemporary Christian and country music performer who charted at the top of the Christian music charts during the 1990s. When she recorded her first song in 1991, she used her mother’s maiden name, Ashton, to set herself from from CCM vocalist Kim Hill. To far, Ashton has recorded eight studio albums, six of which have been released.

Waken by the Wind, her debut album, was published in 1991 and became the best-selling debut in the Sparrow Records label’s history, with Ashton reaching number one in the Christian charts multiple times that year. She was nominated for a Dove Award for New Artist of the Year and was voted Best New Artist by CCM readers and reporters. Sparrow Reco is one of Ashton’s favourite memories.

In 1994, Ashton issued a trio CD, Along the Road, with Margaret Becker of CCM and Christine Denté of Out of the Grey. The title tune is a remake of a Dan Fogelberg composition, while the remaining tracks are all new to this album. The three singers share the lead vocals equally.Garth Brooks approached Ashton in 1994 about opening for him on his European tour.

When she debuted on the PBS music television programme Austin City Limits for their 25th anniversary in 2000, she expanded her following even more.Capital recorded a second album, but it was never released because it was shelved (although the first single “She Is”, was released”I spent three years making a follow-up record for Capitol .
