Planet of the Apes, which Flam wrote for the Philadelphia Inquirer from 2010 to 2012, earned her the Friend of Darwin award in 2014 from the National Center for Science Education. In addition to that, she was the author of a blog for the NewsWorks website of WHYY public radio called Lightning Rod. The first post on this blog, which was published in 2012, discussed the debate that has been going on among historians on whether or not Ben Franklin’s famous experiment with a kite during a lightning storm actually took place.
