Neal Broten Phone Number, House Address, Email, Biography, Wiki, Whatsapp, and Contact Information
Neal LaMoy Broten was born on November 29, 1959, in Roseau, Minnesota, to Neal LaMoy Broten and Margaret Broten. He was a former professional ice hockey player for the Roseau Rams, the Minnesota Gophers, the 1980 Olympic Hockey Gold Medal Team, the Minnesota North Stars, the Dallas Stars, the New Jersey Devils, the Los Angeles Kings, and the Phoenix Roadrunners.
He was born in Roseau, Minnesota. Broten is widely regarded as the most accomplished Minnesota-born hockey player, according to some. He is the only player in history to have played on teams that have won the NCAA championship, the Olympic Gold Medal, and the Stanley Cup in the same calendar year. The state tournament saw him make a total of three appearances, all of which were wins. Roseau High School still has his individual high school record of four assists in a single period from 1978, which he set in 1978.
His first year of college hockey was spent with the Minnesota Golden Gophers, where he won both a national championship in 1979 and the first Hobey Baker Award in 1981, both under the guidance of coach Herb Brooks. His Roseau linemates, Aaron Broten (his younger brother) and next-door neighbor Bryan “Butsy” Erickson, reunited with him while he was a student at the University of Minnesota during his time there.
Both Aaron and Butsy spent significant time in the NHL and went on to become NHL journeymen, with Butsy being dubbed “the good-looking Roseau hockey star” because of his good looks. Interestingly enough, Aaron and Neal’s younger brother Paul went on to become a professional hockey player, spending the majority of his NHL career with the New York Rangers, which is a small footnote in the story.
Neal Broten Biography/Wiki
At the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York, Broten was a member of the United States Olympic team that won a gold medal in an event known as the Miracle on Ice. The New Jersey Devils, with whom he played for 17 seasons in the National Hockey League, won the Stanley Cup in 1995 after he scored the game-winning goal in Game Four against the Detroit Red Wings.
His achievement made him only the second player in hockey history to win both the Olympics’ top prize (the gold medal) and the NHL’s most prestigious trophy (the Stanley Cup). Steve Yzerman and Brendan Shanahan achieved the feat of winning a gold medal and a Stanley Cup in 2002, bringing the total number of gold medalists and Stanley Cup winners to four. During the 1982-83 season of the National Hockey League, Broten was involved in a rare fight with Wayne Gretzky.
It was one of only a handful of fights that both he and Gretzky had in their respective careers. Broten later recalled how he and his teammates would “later have to deal with Gretzky’s enforcers, Marty McSorley and Dave Semenko” after they were defeated by the NHL champion. During the 1994-95 NHL season, which was shortened due to the lockout, Broten served as captain of the Dallas Stars for two months.
In the past, he had served as an alternate captain on a number of different occasions. In total, Broten spent 15 of his 17 major-league seasons with the Stars organization, which was a career-high. He holds the franchise’s all-time scoring and assists records, as well as the most games played and seasons played, as well as the most shorthanded goals, playoff games, and playoff assists. On February 7, 1998, the Minnesota/Dallas Stars organization announced that his number 7 would be retired. In addition, in the year 2000, he was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.
