A lasting friendship with Chris Conner was formed during his minor-league hockey career, and the two later became teammates with the Dallas Stars. Despite the fact that he grew up in Michigan, he was a diehard Minnesota North Stars fan. In his early hockey career, Kesler looked to Minnesota North Stars center and fellow Livonia native Mike Modano for inspiration and guidance.

Additionally, Joe Sakic of the Quebec Nordiques and Colorado Avalanche was a favorite player of his during his childhood, according to him. Kesler and his wife Andrea are the parents of four young children. During the off-season, the family makes its home in Huntington Beach, California.

Their winter home is in Bloomfield, Michigan, where they spend their time off. His family’s previous offseason residence was in his hometown of Livonia, Michigan, which was a short drive away.
