American Lita Ford is an accomplished guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter who rose to fame in the 1970s with The Runaways, an all-girl hard rock band. By utilising their punk-rock sound and aggressive lyrics, they acquired a large amount of recognition in the music world. While the band was unable to gain significant recognition in the US, they achieved considerable recognition overseas, especially in Japan. Ford went on to become one of the most successful heavy metal soloists of the 1980s, with both his self-titled debut album and Defenders of the Faith finding success on the charts.
She undertook voice training, and made her solo album “Out for Blood”, as well as her debut collection of dance music, “Dancin’ on the Edge. After the releases of their records, Ford left the rock world and was not heard from again for a few years. With her smash album, ‘Lita’, published in 1988, she returned with a bang. “Kiss Me Deadly” was a huge song, and the ballad, “Close My Eyes Forever,” was another success. Although she enjoyed a short burst of success, she did not continue working in the industry for some time after that. After the release of ‘Black’ in 1995, she made a return over 15 years later with the song ‘Wicked Wonderland.
She launched her most recent album in 2016 called “Time Capsule. She was given the Guitar Player Magazine’s Certified Guitar Legend Award. At the age of 16, Lita Ford’s parents separated, with her father leaving for another army post. Her family relocated to the US when she was in the second grade, and they settled in Long Beach, California. Ritchie Blackmore was the guitarist for Deep Purple at the time, and she was influenced by his work. At the age of 16, Lita Ford auditioned for an all-teenage girl band, and she was invited to join the all-girl rock band the Runaways by their organiser, Kim Fowley.
Their debut album was released in 1976 along with their first recording deal. Despite tremendous media attention, and the fact that the band toured in the 1970s, the record was not successful. Despite releasing four full-length studio albums from 1976 to 1978, the Runaways had little commercial success. After experiencing several problems, the band went their separate ways, with the lead singer Cherie Currie, producer/songwriter Fowley, and bassist Jackie Fox all departing the group. As far as the other members were concerned, things were not all right. Jett sought a Ramones-influenced punk rock sound, however Ford and West instead want a hard rock sound that the band was renowned for. In April of 1979, neither party was willing to compromise, therefore the band broke up.
Ford began preparing to launch a solo career when the Runaways broke up. Her debut solo album, “Out for Blood,” was released in 1983; it was a commercial and critical failure. Her album Dancin’ on the Edge was published in 1984. Some success was realised, and the rock world finally started to take notice of her. Fire in My Heart and Gotta Let Go found strong chart success on the Top 10 rock singles chart. Sharon Osbourne Management then became responsible for all of her recordings.
She landed a record deal with RCA, and developed a radio-friendly, pop-metal sound for her debut album. Her self-produced album ‘Lita’ was a hit in the mid-’80s. Many well-known singles such as ‘Kiss Me Deadly’, ‘Back to the Cave’, ‘Close My Eyes Forever’, and ‘Falling in and Out of Love’ all found their way into the album. “Stiletto” was the first studio album that she published in 1990, and on it she recorded the songs “Hungry” and “Lisa,” which she dedicates to her mother. Nevertheless, the record was unsuccessful. Her second album, titled “Dangerous Curves,” was published in 1991. The song ‘Shot of Poison’ was her last hit to enter the top 40 in the United States. She released her new album “Black” with zero fanfare.
Ford went on a decade-long break from the music industry, which began in 1996 and ended in 2007. She wanted to put her family first, therefore she made that decision consciously. After giving birth to two children, she dedicated herself to raising them. On October 6, 2009, she released the album “Wicked Wonderland.” The JLRG Entertainment produced the video.
In May of 2011, she pledged to release a “Lita” album, and she actually returned in June of 2012 with the album “Living Like a Runaway.” Like she had promised, the album did relate to her previous work, although it wasn’t a huge success. Ford issued another “Time Capsule” album in 2016, and it too failed to have any impression. The Top Ten Revealed debuted in 2018, and throughout the year she appeared in the AXS TV series with a different topic each week.
