He was a three-time All-Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) selection and three-time team Defensive MVP during his senior year.He played in the Heritage Bowl. The fact that he was not invited to the NFL Scouting Combine didn’t stop him from taking part. Steelers scouts were impressed with his college football performances. In Atlanta, Steelers scout, Tom Donahoe met with him at Fort Valley State for a workout. His results were very impressive, and he was very pleased with them.
He was then selected in the 6th round of the 1987 NFL draught to play for the Philadelphia Eagles. He became the team’s 28th linebacker at that point..Greg Lloyd suffered a badly sprained left knee while training on the 28th of July, the same year he was drafted. For the majority of his rookie season in 1987 and most of the 1988 season, he was out of the lineup. Soon after David Little’s retirement, he took over the team’s defence with emotion and ferocious motivation. Combined with Rod Woodson, he was one of the game’s most dynamic and dominant defensive players.
As the starter for the 1997 season, he remained in place. A knee injury forced him to miss the majority of the following season. Many of his other games were cancelled due to a staph infection. Over the course of his career, he was named to five Pro Bowls and three NFL All-Pro teams When he left the Steelers in 1998, he spent a short time with the Carolina Panthers before retiring. It wasn’t until years after he retired that he started teaching young linebackers about the finer points of Steelers linebacking tradition.
Greg Lloyd Sr. finished his playing career with 397 tackles, 54.5 sacks, 24 forced fumbles, 12 fumble recoveries, and 11 interceptions.As a result of his son’s poor grades, Greg Lloyd Sr. was accused of shooting him in the mouth in 2001. After two trials, the jury verdicts were deadlocked in 2004. His ex-wife, Rhonda Lloyd, was shot in the head with a gun in 2002. He pleaded no contest to simple battery in 2004. As a result of his recent arrest, his wife Stephanie was threatened with a gun. A felony aggravated assault and misdemeanour pointing a gun at another person were the only charges against him, but he denied them.
