As a pinch runner for the Braves in a 4–1 loss to the Montreal Expos on September 4, 1982, Zuvella made his major league debut with the Braves. Zuvella spent parts of the next four seasons on Atlanta’s bench, playing in a career-high 81 games in 1985, with All-Star Rafael Ramrez firmly entrenched at shortstop.The New York Yankees had trouble replacing Bucky Dent at shortstop after he was traded to the Texas Rangers on August 8, 1982. (with Roy Smalley, Bobby Meacham, Dale Berra, Tim Foli and Andre Robertson, among others, having been given a shot at the position).
In exchange for Ken Griffey and Andre Robertson on June 30, 1986, the Yankees acquired Zuvella along with outfielder Claudell Washington. Zuvella signed with the Cleveland Indians prior to the 1988 season. In 1988 and 1989, he served as Jay Bell’s and Félix Fermn’s backup, but he was released by the Cleveland Indians during the 1990 spring training season. As soon as he was released, Zuvella was signed by the Kansas City Royals and spent the next two seasons with their Triple-A affiliate, the Omaha Royals. In the first two games of the 1991 season, he played for Kansas City.Zuvella worked as a manager and instructor for the Colorado Rockies after retiring as a player.
