Peter Benedict Holmes is an American comedian, actor, writer, producer, and podcaster. He was born on March 30, 1979, in the United States. His writings often contain musings on a variety of topics, including spirituality and religion. As a stand-up comedian, Holmes rose to prominence in the early 2010s. During this time, he also debuted his first comedy special, established his long-running podcast You Made It Weird (2011–present), and worked as an actor and television writer. After that, he launched his own late-night talk program called The Pete Holmes Show (2013–2014), which aired on TBS for two seasons following Conan, an avid supporter of his work.
The show played in the time period immediately following Conan. Impregnated with Wonder (2011), Nice Try, The Devil (2013), Faces and Sounds (2016), and Dirty Clean (2017) were the four stand-up comedy specials that he released over the course of the decade (2018). The semi-autobiographical written comedy series Crashing, which Holmes starred in and created, ran for three seasons on HBO and is the primary reason for Holmes’s widespread recognition (2017–2019). BIOGRAPHY:
Peter Benedict Holmes was born on March 30, 1979, in the city of Boston. His mother was a refugee from Lithuania, and his father was an American citizen who was of Irish origin. There is also a brother of his who writes music and goes by the alias Dr. Holmes. He attended Lexington High School and grew up in the town of Lexington, Massachusetts, where he also received his high school diploma. Holmes received his degree in English and Communications from Gordon College, which is located in Wenham, Massachusetts. He graduated with this degree in the year 2001.
During this time period, he was a member of both a punk rock band and an improvisational comedy group known as The Sweaty-Toothed Madmen. He intended to train to work in youth ministry, in part because his mother encouraged him to do so. His love for comedy and his weakening faith in God eventually won out over his urge to preach, and he now refers to himself as “Christ-leaning” or, more jokingly, as a “hooray theist.” This led to his becoming involved in public speaking, and his need to preach eventually faded away. As a comedian, he had little success in his home state, so he moved to Sleepy Hollow, New York, before going on to Chicago and then Los Angeles.
The New York City comedy scene was where Holmes’s career first got its start. During the middle of the 2000s, he was making club appearances and participating in shows like VH1’s All Access, Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, and VH1’s Best Week Ever as a regular panelist. He also appeared on VH1’s All Access. He first found success as a stand-up comedian[4, including on the Christian comedy circuit], and began to tour. His drawings have been published in The New Yorker continuously since the year 2006. In addition, Holmes conceived of and acted in a commercial for Doritos that aired during Super Bowl XLIII in 2009.
The commercial featured a fictitious new flavor of the product called beer, in which each chip contained the same amount of alcohol as a can of beer measuring 16 ounces. In 2010, he appeared on both “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” and “John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show,” where he is known for his stand-up comedy. It was on the episode of Comedy Central Presents that aired on February 26, 2010, when he debuted his first television special. On March 21, 2011, and again on November 17, 2011, he was a guest on the chat show Conan, which airs on TBS.
On November 15, 2011, Holmes made his debut with the release of his album titled “Impregnated With Wonder” via iTunes. Nice Try, The Devil was the title of his second studio album, which was released in 2013. Pete Holmes debuted his long-form comedy podcast titled “You Made It Weird with Pete Holmes” in the year 2011. Garry Shandling, Judd Apatow, Aziz Ansari, John Mulaney, Ben Schwartz, and Dana Carvey are among the celebrities that have appeared as guests on the show. The perspectives of the guests on comedy, sexuality, and religion are often some of the topics that are brought up in each episode.
On the animated show “Ugly Americans” that airs on Comedy Central, Holmes has provided the voices for various different characters. In a number of E-Trade television advertisements, he lent his voice to the character of the baby and was also given credit as a writer for those commercials. Both the NBC primetime sitcom “Outsourced” and the Fox sitcom “I Hate My Teenage Daughter,” which was canceled by Fox in May 2012, were written by him.
In the internet series Badman, produced by CollegeHumor, Holmes has developed a humorous interpretation of Batman. He and Matthew McCarthy collaborated on a YouTube channel called frontpage-films, which was devoted to sketches. On August 21 and 23, 2012, Pete Holmes taped three episodes of a talk show pilot for TBS that was produced by Conan O’Brien and named The Midnight Show with Pete Holmes. These episodes were recorded over the course of two days.
The actors Nick Offerman, Joel McHale, T. J. Miller, and Bill Burr appeared as guests on the pilot episodes of Holmes that were never broadcast. The show was picked up by TBS on February 26, 2013, and it first went on the air in late 2013. By the 10th of July in 2013, the show had been rebranded as The Pete Holmes Show. The first episode of the new series aired on October 28, following Conan. Holmes had his first divorce when he was 28 years old, after having been married for the first time at the age of 22. Late in 2017, he tied the knot with Valerie Chaney. The month of September 2018 saw the arrival of their daughter. Holmes adheres to a vegan diet.
