Mark Moshe Kasher(born July 6, 1979) is a stand-up comedian, writer, and actor from the United States who is based in the greater Los Angeles area. He is the writer of the autobiography “Kasher in the Rye: The True Tale of a White Boy from Oakland Who Became a Drug Addict, Criminal, and Mental Patient, and Then Turned 16,” which was published in 2012. iTunes bestowed the “Best New Comic” accolade upon Kasher in the year 2009, and in the same year, his comedy album Everyone You Know Is Going to Die, and Then You Are! was ranked among the top 20 comedy albums available on iTunes. When Kasher was just one year old, his mother and brother relocated the family to Oakland, California. Kasher followed shortly after. Kasher’s brother is a member of the Jewish clergy.Kasher wrote about his life as a drug addict, criminal, and mental patient in his autobiography titled “Kasher in the Rye: The True Tale of a White Boy from Oakland Who Became a Drug Addict, Criminal, and Mental Patient, and Then Turned 16.” Kasher began his time in mental institutions at the age of 4, and he continued to use drugs between the ages of 12 and 16. Four different high schools had him expelled for various infractions. In an interview with SanDiego.com, Kasher referred to himself as “pretty straight edge” and stated that he has not used illegal drugs “since I was very young.” He also stated that he has been clean for a long time. After completing his general education development requirements at the age of 16, he went on to become a sign-language interpreter.
Kasher received his education at a community college located in the Bay Area. There, he majored in theatre and penned a number of lengthy monologues.After that, he changed schools and enrolled at the University of California, Santa Barbara. There, he earned a degree in religious studies and a minor in Jewish studies before graduating. Prior to embarking on a career in comedy, Kasher had entertained the notion of teaching Jewish history at the collegiate level. At the beginning of the 2000s, Kasher focused the majority of his performances on the San Francisco Bay Area, most notably at the Punch Line and Cobb’s comedy clubs in San Francisco. Between the middle of the 2000s and the end of the decade, he took part in a number of comedy shows alongside fellow comedians Brent Weinbach and Alex Koll.Kasher relocated to Los Angeles in the year 2008.
The year 2009 was a pivotal one for Kasher in terms of his comedy career. In October of 2015, Kasher tied the knot with fellow comedian Natasha Leggero, who had recently converted to Judaism. In February of 2018, the couple became parents to a little girl. He belongs to the Democratic Socialists of America, which is a socialist political party.
