Katherine Rose Halper is a stand-up comedian, writer, filmmaker, podcaster, and political commentator from in the United States. She was born on July 11, 1980/1981. Both The Katie Halper Show, which she hosts, and Useful Idiots, which she co-hosts with Matt Taibbi, are podcasts that she is responsible for. New York City is where Halper first made his home. She spent her childhood on Riverside Drive, which is located in the Upper West Side neighborhood of Manhattan.
In 2003, she received both her diploma from the Dalton School and her degree from Wesleyan University. She has characterized herself as a secular Jew while having Jewish background and coming from Eastern European Jewish ancestry. Both of her parents are writers and teachers of English; her mother is a novelist and her father is a psychiatrist. After receiving his degree from Wesleyan University, Halper obtained a position as the development director at the Downtown Community Television Center (DCTV), a non-profit organization that operates as a media education center and documentary production house. In addition to that, she managed campaigns for living wages and labor in New York City and Florida.

Additionally, Ms. Halper has served as a history teacher at the Dalton School, which is her alma mater. [ It was as a stand-up comedian that she launched her professional career. Symphony Space, The Culture Project in New York, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the D.C. Comedy Festival, and Netroots Nation are among the places where she has done stand-up comedy. Additionally, she appeared on The Nation magazine’s yearly Seminar Cruise as a performer. She has shared the stage alongside Lizz Winstead, Markos Moulitsas, The Yes Men, Cynthia Nixon, and Jim Hightower, among other notable artists.
She worked as the outreach director for the documentary The Take, which was directed by Avi Lewis and Naomi Klein (2004). This documentary was screened at the Toronto International Film Festival, the Venice Film Festival, and the Film Forum. It is about a workers’ movement in Buenos Aires, Argentina. La Memoria es Vaga (2005), which was Halper’s first film as director, was a documentary on the Valle de Los Cabos and historical memory in post-Franco Spain. The film was directed by Halper.
It was shown in theatres in Spain as well as the United States. [Tim Robbins and the DCTV film Embedded Live, which was also released in 2005 and was based on Robbins’ play of the same name, had Halper serving as a co-producer. The documentary Embedded Live has been screened at both the Venice Film Festival and on the Sundance Channel. She worked as an associate producer on Estela Bravo’s documentary titled “Free to Fly: The US-Cuba Link” (2004), which examined the restrictions placed on travelers going between Cuba and the United States. Both the Havana Film Festival and the Los Angeles Latino International Film Festival had screenings of the movie Free to Fly. Commie Camp was a film that Halper directed as well as produced (2013). Commie Camp is a documentary about the Jewish summer camp Camp Kinderland, where Halper attended as a camper and where her mother and grandmother worked as counselors. The film was originally named Another Camp Is Possible. In addition to that, she was a co-director of the documentary titled “Facing Fascism: New Yorkers Remember the Spanish Civil War,” which was displayed at the Museum of the City of New York. Morning Jew with Heather Gold is a podcast and YouTube program, and Halper was a co-host for the show.
She is the host of The Katie Halper Show, a podcast and radio program that airs weekly on WBAI. During an interview with Halper that was released as a podcast on March 25, 2020, Tara Reade, a former Senate staff assistant of Joe Biden, stated that Biden sexually assaulted her in a Capitol Hill office building in 1993. This caused a lot of attention to be brought to the episode. A representative for Biden’s campaign stated that the accusation is untrue. Useful Idiot is a podcast that was created by Halper and Matt Taibbi in 2019 and is co-hosted by both of them. Rolling Stone is the podcast’s distributor. Tulsi Gabbard, Ro Khanna, Andrew Yang, Bernie Sanders, Michael Moore, Tim Robbins, Glenn Greenwald, Norman Finkelstein, Aaron Maté, Dennis Kucinich, Noam Chomsky, Adam McKay, Lowkey, Rashida Tlaib, and Roger Waters have all been interviewed on the program since its inception. In March of 2021, Taibbi made the announcement that Rolling Stone would no longer be the distributor of Useful Idiots and that the publication would instead be transferring to Substack.
