McGovern has stated that listening to rap songs and interviews given by Eminem served as a major inspiration for the creation of his signature comedic character, The Gay Pimp. McGovern is quoted as saying, Eminem was the one who started it all. I couldn’t believe how offensive he was to smokers and how crazy he was talking. People were protesting, but it seemed pointless to demonstrate against a pop star. I reasoned that the most effective way for me to voice my disapproval would be to create a lengthy, elaborate, glamorous, and humorous show… which I titled The Wrong Fag to Fuck With The Gay Pimp vs. Eminem. At that time, the Gay Pimp was a pop star and a superhero who debuted at the MTV Video Music Awards to compete against Eminem. Naturally, it came to an end with Eminem getting it where it hurts and being humiliated while all of the gay teenagers were allowed to go free.

After the songs from the show started getting heavy rotation in the nightclubs of New York City, McGovern was approached about the possibility of making a music video for one of his songs called “Soccer Practice.”The success of the single brought attention to McGovern, and he went on to provide commentary for a number of shows on VH1, including Best Week Ever, Totally Gay, and 40 Dumbest Celebrity Quotes. He also earned a spot on Alan Cumming’s all-gay comedy show Out on the Edge, which is broadcast on Comedy Central.McGovern is the host of his own YouTube show on StreamTV called Hey Qween!, on which he discusses LGBT culture by conducting interviews with prominent members of the community. Up until the year 2020, the late Lady Red Couture served as a co-host for this show.
