Johnny Taylor Jr. is a stand-up comedian, writer, actor, and podcaster who hails from the city of Sacramento in the state of California in the United States. Stand Up! Records have distributed two comedy albums and one single in support of a charitable cause by Taylor. Tangled Up in Plaid, his first album, debuted at No. 7 on the iTunes comedy chart the year it was released.  His follow-up album and video, titled Bummin’ with the Devil, was released in 2018, and it quickly climbed to the top of the comedy charts on both Amazon and iTunes. BIOGRAPHY:

Taylor’s dedication to his craft was a key factor in his meteoric rise in the Northern California comedy scene. During his first year as a comic, he would make the drive to San Francisco and perform at as many open mics in a single night as he could, ultimately making between 300 and 400 appearances on stage throughout the course of that year.

He was voted the best comedian in Sacramento in 2016 by readers of the Sacramento News & Review, and he came in second place in the same poll in 2014. He won the Stand-up Shootout competition in Sacramento in 2011, and he was named the city’s best comedian in 2016.

Taylor calls himself a “storyteller comic,” and a significant portion of his material is derived from his own life experiences. He is well-known for his deeply personal, brutally honest, and frequently gloomy brand of comedy, which includes routines about both of his divorces as well as the deaths of both of his parents.

He has performed at the San Francisco Sketchfest, the New Orleans Hell Yes Fest, the Asheville Comedy Festival, the Altercation Fest, the Sacramento Comedy Festival, the Chico Comedy Festival, and other comedy festivals across the United States and Canada.  He is also a veteran of the comedy festival circuit, having appeared at the San Francisco Sketchfest, the New Orleans Hell Yes Fest, the Asheville Comedy Festival, the Altercation Fest, the Sacramento Comedy Festival, and the Chico Comedy Festival He is frequently seen on the road with Brian Posehn.

In 2015, he and another Sacramento comic named Keith Lowell Jensen hosted the podcast It’s Funny Because together. Taylor, according to Aaron Carnes of the Sacramento News & Review, “never rushes a punchline and tells true stories with absurd details,” which is an improvement over his debut.  Lara Smith, who works for the website ComedyWham and is based in Austin, Texas, observed Taylor’s “evolution and growth” as a comedian and stated that “he’s grown more comfortable as a performer and a polished storyteller.”  The “dark and autobiographical humor” was praised by Richard Lanoie of The Serious Comedy Site, but Lanoie believed that his material on Donald Trump, which was recorded before the 2016 election, was out of date.
