On August 31, 2020, Facebook and Instagram banned Wohl indefinitely for establishing fake profiles. The Michigan Department of Justice charged Wohl and Burkman, individually, with four felonies on October 1, 2020, all stemming from a robocall campaign that began in August of that year and was reportedly conceived by Wohl and Burkman. In addition to the bribery and fraud charges, the robocalling campaign resulted in eight counts of telecommunications fraud for each of them in Ohio.

At the end of April 2020, a press release was issued in which a lady accused Dr. Anthony Fauci, a senior member of the White House Coronavirus Task Force, of sexually assaulting her in 2014. The claim was only covered by The Daily Dot, which promptly dismissed it as a malicious attempt to damage the reputation of the target.

This woman contacted Reason magazine on May 2, 2020, claiming that Wohl and Burkman had paid her and another woman to make up accusations against Dr. Fauci. She claimed she had known Wohl from when he was in a relationship with her several years prior, and that he had urged her to frame Fauci using the specifics of an actual sexual assault she had endured and disclosed to Wohl during their dating relationship. When Wohl’s attempt to frame an Oscar-winning actor with her account of being assaulted failed, she said he paid her to try it again with Fauci.

Jacob Wohl was recently accused of orchestrating a robocalling campaign to spread disinformation about upcoming elections. Today, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel charged Wohl and his business partner Jack Burkman with four felonies. Allegations against them include making calls to residents of Detroit to discourage voting, making false assertions that mail-in votes would allow health agencies to “follow people for obligatory immunizations,” and more. Around 85,000 calls were allegedly made by Wohl and Burkman in August to potential voters in Michigan, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Illinois.

Calls were made to locations with high Black populations, identifying themselves as being from “Project 1599, a civil rights organization formed by Jack Burkman and Jacob Wohl,” and advising recipients not to “be finessed into revealing your sensitive information to the man.” Due to the coronavirus outbreak, many voters may choose to send in ballots for the 2020 presidential election, raising worries about misinformation and voter suppression.
