Kevin Elliot Pollak entered the world on October 30, 1957, in San Francisco, California. He was raised by his parents, Robert Pollack and Elaine Harlow, in San Jose, California. His older brother’s name is Craig. Pollak completed his high school education at “Pioneer High School” in California. From an early age, he had a deep interest in comedy. In fact, Pollack has been doing stand-up since he was just 10 years old. When Pollak was just a teen, he hosted comedy shows at San Jose’s hottest clubs. Pollard had a tough time finding venues to perform in since, back then, music was more popular than comedy. At first, he only appeared during instrumental breaks.
Kevin Pollak’s ability to convincingly portray other public figures has been a major asset to his career. When he was just 17 years old, he was asked to join the stage by the legendary impressionist Rich Little. Both of them portrayed the iconic character of Columbo, originally portrayed by Peter Falk. After finishing college, Pollak uprooted to the Bay Area. The “San Francisco International Comedy Competition” awarded him second place in 1982.
Pollak began his professional life as a stand-up comedian. His breakthrough role came in Ron Howard’s 1988 film Willow. Pollack appeared as “Izzy Kirk” in the 1990 film “Avalon.” Rob Reiner’s 1992 legal drama “A Few Good Men” featured Pollak in a breakout performance. He appeared with Hollywood heavyweights like Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson, and Demi Moore in this film. His portrayal of ‘Lieutenant Sam Weinberg’ was well-received.
BIOGRAPHY:
The success of “A Few Good Men” prompted Pollak to appear in other films like “End of Days,” “The Wedding Planner,” and “Ricochet.” In both ‘Grumpy Old Men’ and ‘Grumpier Old Men,’ he performed the role of Jacob Goldman. Even unfavorable roles were played by Pollak. In Bryan Singer’s crime thriller, “The Usual Suspects,” he plays the role of “Todd Hockney,” a criminal. In the film, ‘The Whole Nine Yards,’ Pollak portrayed the gangster, Janni Pytor Gogolak. With ‘Deterrence,’ directed by Rod Lurie and starring Pollak as President Walter Emerson, Pollak made his Broadway debut in 1999. Vice President Emerson, suddenly thrust into the role of President, had to deal with an unexpected nuclear disaster. Pollak did a great job of bringing the character to life.
Kevin Pollak has also made appearances on a number of TV series. As the host of the Bravo network’s “Celebrity Poker Showdown,” he oversaw the show’s debut season. In 2006, he portrayed Karl Kreutzfeld on the Sci-Fi network’s drama series The Lost Room. Pollak was the host of the 2010 season of the Fox game shows Million Dollar Money Drop. The comedic film “The Late Bloomer” was directed by him in 2016. Pollak’s ability to convincingly portray other people is one of the many talents that have made him famous. He has impersonated celebrities including Woody Allen, Eddy Murphy, Al Pacino, and Sylvester Stallone in his role as a celebrity impressionist. In 2009, he had a show on Showtime called “The Littlest Suspect” where he did stand-up comedy. Pollak was named by “Comedy Central” as one of the best 100 comedians of all time.
Even Kevin Pollak has benefited from modern technology. Once a week, he goes live on YouTube with his internet conversation show, which he calls “Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show.” Celebrities such as film directors, actors, and comedians are invited to have candid conversations on the show. Tom Hanks, Jason Lee, and Jimmy Pardo are just a few of the famous faces that have made guest appearances.
In the ‘Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show’ segment ‘You’re Not Buffering,’ Pollak pretends his internet connection is down by pausing in the middle of a sentence. Then he finally speaks up, saying, “You’re not buffering.” Here we see his wit and comedy at its finest.
Pollak prefers the excitement of live theater to that of prerecorded films. “There is nothing like getting up on stage and taking an audience for a journey,” he says of performing in front of a live audience. A film may not be released to the public for another ten months after production. What they think of you here is clear from the get-go.
